Genre EDM: Skrillex and Diplo - "Where Are Ü Now" with Justin Bieber (Music Video Analysis)

The music video has various types of editing and it starts with a dark to light transition of a room. The camera is on a dolly and it zooms into a plain black clipboard on the wall which then fades black and into the main music video showing the featuring artists Justin Bieber. This video doesn't actually clearly show the main artist Skrillex and Diplo and instead it shows the artist who is singing Justin Bieber. This could imply that Goodwin was wrong at the part of his theory where the main song artist is promoted in the video due to record label demands but this music video goes against that theory as music artists in modern music videos don't always show themselves in the video, instead they prefer to show and promote the featuring artist which in this case is Justin Bieber. Some people of the audiences actually think that this song is by Justin Bieber as he is heavily promoted in this music video instead of the actual artist.

Miss-en-scene is used in the shot where Justin Bieber is as it has very little lighting which eventually starts to increase when the camera goes closer into Justin Bieber from a long shot to a close up. There was also a close up of a paint brush showing that the video was gonna feature art and painting. The music video is also heavily edited with paintings and drawings on the Justin Biebers face and on his body and all around him which gradually appears. The editing is synchronised with the music as when the pitch changes the drawings all appear at faster speeds and appears in a flash. The scene is then cut into another shot which is speeded up very fast showing a lot of people walking in and out of the room and drawing on pictures of the artist. The scene has various shots with the camera swerving, panning and showing a high angle view of people drawing. There was also the use of some slow motion when the artist starts to dance to create a pleasing effect for the audience and to synchronise it with the music. When the song changes to a slower pace and stops for a brief second, the video starts to fade and go black, it then transitions slowly back to a close up of Justin Biebers face again heavily promoting him and showing the audience that he is singing the song. There is also an extreme close up of the artists eye and it gradually goes to this close up which suddenly cuts and changes to more drawings and painting appearing in a flash to synchronise with the increasing pace of the song.

I think this is quite a interesting music video. It is visually appealing and it brings an audience to watch the video if its unique and interesting.
