Genre Grime: Skepta - Amnesia Music Video Analysis

This song 'Amnesia' by Skepta is a Grime Genre. The narrative in the music is about a person who was at a party last night and no longer members what happened the next morning.

There was many shots and cinematography in this music video. There are close ups of someone on their phone sliding through pictures of the party last night and there are also many close of ups of Skepta's face as he is the main artist of the song. Skepta is in almost all the shots in this music video, this shows that he is the artist and the song is about him and this proves Goodwin's Theory. There was also a long shot of septa and two other men walking with luggages in there hands showing that they are going somewhere like a hotel or holiday. There were close up shots of alcohol bottles showing that they were drunk and also a close up of skeptas face showing confusion and distress, this again links with the lyrics of the music. Theres mid shots and close ups of Skepta at a party which shows the audience what actually happened 'Last Night'. There was also a worms eye view shot of skepta showing that he is the artist and at the end there was also a silhouette shot of him and some other people, the silhouette was taken in a sunny beach side area, showing his on holiday.

Editing was also used in this music video. There was some slow motion scenes of skepta and some men walking with luggage to add a dramatic effect and it was done so the video goes with the pace of the song. There was also many jump cuts to scenes that link with the lyrics, such as "Last night was Sick" shown with a shot of Skepta waking up from his bed and also "When I woke up I found a note.." shown with a shot of a note. There was some jump cuts and montages of scenes such as the scene with the mini bar and some of the alcohol bottles disappearing, showing that they have been drank.

A lot of mine-en-scene was used in this music video too. There was lighting on Skeptas face when his was in the club and there was also the use of natural lighting with the sun when Skepta was standing outside and rapping. There were also many props used such as Quad bikes, Luggages, smartphone, notestick, alcohol bottle and a shirt saying "Boy Better Know" which is promoting Skeet's record label 'Boy Better Know' and Goodwin says that in music videos the record label demands are presented.

I think this is a good music video as it relates with the narrative and it shows the artist singing and acting in the scenes so that it is visually entraining for the audience, as a music video is meant to make an audience listen to the song more.
